The right note, at the right moment.
Music, and the piano especially, have been my gateway into the world of art and toward beauty. Jazz gave me freedom, impressionism gave me poetry, and film music taught me to tell stories and underline the images that carry us away.
Different facets, different influences… So what? There is no style — there is only good music!
Trained at the Annecy Conservatory and then at the Haute École de Musique in Lausanne (Bachelor in Jazz, Master's in Pedagogy), I compose and improvise at the crossroads of jazz, impressionist music, and music written for the screen.
On stage as in the studio, I'm after the same thing: a moment where music stops being background sound and becomes a presence.
01 · Jazz
For me, jazz was first a school for understanding harmony and improvisation. I didn't even particularly enjoy listening to it, in fact — I found it too intense, too dissonant, almost chaotic!
But little by little, this school opened onto something far greater than a way of playing: a language, a culture, a certain approach to music, to sharing, and to the present moment. And above all, a freedom I have yet to find anywhere else — except, perhaps, in travel…
02 · Impressionist Music
Impressionism is, to me, a form of poetry. It's a music that asks you to take the time to tame colours rarely found elsewhere.
And yet these colours can touch and describe, with great precision, feelings and sensations that words alone would often struggle to explain…
03 · Film Scoring
In film music, I found a freer way of composing. There is no fixed form or framework — the music depends, above all, on what you're trying to tell and to convey.
I also love the humility of this kind of music: it isn't necessarily there to draw attention to itself, but to serve the image, accompany it, and sometimes elevate it.
04 · Total Art
Total art is probably what my work, and my way of living, ultimately reach toward. I don't see it as a mere crossing of disciplines, but as a blend of philosophy, personal experience, and different artistic mediums.
Music, film, theatre, writing, image… are all different ways of conveying the same thing. In short, total art is, to me, a way of sharing everything I am made of.
